Problem: Slowly Lossing power then dying
Diagnosis/Solution: Somthing is clogging up.. Clean Exhaust, Clean top end of motor, Check and clean spark plugs, Fresh gas?, Proper fuel Mixture?
Problem: Running fine then cutting in and out and eventualy dying
Diagnosis/Solution: This is a loose sparkplug cap. My solution was to use some copper wire wrapped around the bottom of the spart plug and reached up over the sparkplug cap and held it down securely.
It could also be the CDI,Coil, Magneto (1977-1980 models), some damaged wiring, or a dirty carb
Problem: Hard to start after running good
Diagnosis/Solution: The problem is most likely overheating. Allow it to sit for a while and try again This is a common problem with older 2-strokes
Problem: Hard jerking when pullstarting motor and a "chinking" noise is heard.
Diagnosis/Solution: This means one or more of the dogs have come out of your pullstart assebley. Take the pullstart off and take the assebley apart. Reinstall the dogs if there is little wear, if there is wear.. take a good one to a good welder/machinist and they will make a new one for you. Reinstall new ones and put back on motor.
While you have the Pullstart off check to make sure all bolts are still holding it on if not replace them and make sure there isnt fatigue in the pullstarts case. Mine ripped clean off the buggy twice.
Problem: Runs, But has no power
Diagnosis/Solution: This could be due to several things. Check and clean the following: Airfilter,Snorkle air intake, Exhaust pipe, Sparkplugs and Carb. If problem continues, check your head gaskets and test for compression
